Origin v2 test in light wind.
(Staying upwind the whole time).
Here are the stats:
Kite size: 11m
Kite Trimming: Fully powered on the center lines. 2 inches of pull on the rear line straps at the bar.
Board size: TT 131×40

The Bar (HydraV4 and Origin 1)
How to “donkey doodle your chicken stick”, or whatever you wish to call it to prevent it from getting damaged on the HydraV4 and Origin1 models.
While rigging your kite:
Make sure the end of your donkey’s doodle is free and sticking out over your hook and not caught under your harness while you’re rigging. Do a quick glance at it before launching.
In this picture, while still on the beach, the weight of the bar dangling is bending the donkey which is caught in your belt. The CL has slid out of position and if you’re not paying attention and launch, you could break the donkey. Always make sure the donkey’s end is either free and sticking out over your hook (or if you are holding your bar higher than your hook) that it is sticking below your hook.
In gusty conditions, if you are bottoming out your bar against the QR to regain your balance during a lull, this will force the CL to be pushed beyond your hook and any twist or angle of your body to the kite at this stage can make the CL drop bellow your hook (pic B). Only the donkey will be going through the hook (pic C) and isn’t strong enough to hold the load as you regain your balance and push the bar away. Your donkey will get damaged or break.
Origin2 back line setting for optimum performance.
We have found out that the 11m and 9m Origin2 come with a factory knot setting on the rear line pigtails (at the kite) that tends to create momentary back stalling in lighter winds if you hit a lull while kiting. This is more likely to occur if you pull the bar towards you as you lose your balance or if you have a shorter reach.
To remedy this, a second knot can be added at the end of each back lines pigtails (Left and Right) on the wingtips. The factory setting is around 28 inches. Your added new knot will be at 33 inches give or take 1.5 inches. You can then adjust your rear line from the straps (on the fly at the bar, see pic below) if you need to regain some power in the kite. There is no need shorten the pigtails by adding another knot at 26 inches for example.
IN LIGHT WINDS
If you are using this method on the Origin1, make sure that when you have your kite at 12 o’clock on the beach, don’t push the bar out toward the kite and slacken the back lines, especially in lighter winds. Always have some tension on the back lines and fly the kite a little side to side. With the Origin2 bar, the de-power length is shorter @ 13.5 inches (34cm) as opposed to 16.5 inches (42cm) on the Origin1 bar giving the Origin2 more angle to the wind with the bar pushed out (de-powered) all the way.
A COMMON MISTAKE WE HAVE SEEN IN LIGHTER WIND IS THAT PEOPLE ON THE BEACH WILL BRING THEIR KITE FROM THE EDGE OF THE WIND WINDOW UP TO 12 O’CLOCK AND AS THE KITE REACHES THE TOP, INSTEAD OF APPLYING SOME BAR PRESSURE TO SLOW DOWN THE ASCENDING KITE TO A STOP, THEY PUSH THE BAR AWAY WHICH LETS THE KITE ARRIVE AT 12 O’CLOCK WITH TOO MUCH SPEED. THIS WILL MAKE THE KITE OVERSHOOT THE EDGE OF THE WIND WINDOW AND FALL.
We all slow down to a stop at an intersection or traffic lights. Please, do the same with your kite as it approaches the edge of the wind window and be kind to yourself and others on the beach
Usually one (1) inch to two (2) inches is plenty. After that depending on the wind strength, your kite will start to back stall.
